Izadi receives the VI ‘Business and Society Award José Ignacio Arrieta’

04/07/2025

Bodegas Izadi received the award last Monday, June 23, in the SME category. The winery from Rioja Alavesa has been recognized for its work in environmental and social sustainability. This is the sixth edition of these awards, which took place in Bizkaia Aretoa in Bilbao.

Bodegas Izadi is profiled as a project whose development is based on the incorporation of responsible practices in all its processes that minimize its ecological impact and promote the efficient use of resources, with the aim of leaving a better planet, contributing with its actions to the Sustainable Development Goals.

The Villabuena de Álava winery has been awarded for its firm commitment to sustainability: it was one of the first wineries in the D.O.Ca. Rioja to obtain the Sustainable Wineries for Climate Protection certificate, the result of an exhaustive analysis of its processes which has enabled it to reduce water consumption by 40%, energy by 30% and greenhouse gas emissions by 80%. It has installed 152 solar panels for self-consumption, contracted 100% renewable energy and optimized tasks such as barrel washing (22% less steam and 33% less hot water). In vineyards, the organic certification of its Finca El Regalo and high-altitude viticulture reinforce adaptation to climate change, while agreements with suppliers and recycling programs turn its waste into new materials. These initiatives -together with energy, water and packaging efficiency measures- have been decisive in awarding it the VI José Ignacio Arrieta Company and Society Award.

Izadi also promotes social sustainability with intensive working days and an anti-harassment protocol, incorporating 20% of young people and 40% of women in its workforce, and promotes the rural development of Rioja Alavesa through sustainable wine tourism -awarded the “Best Of Enotourism” by Great Wine Capitals- and its active participation in the Wine Route and local events.
